Joseph D. Raskin opened his practice in 2003, after years with a premier San Diego law firm. Joseph saw the need for high-quality legal services tailored to the needs of individuals, professionals, and small entities that had been "priced out" of the highest quality representation and client service. Mr. Raskin's practice in a larger firm established his excellent legal skills and brought significant court experience to the new firm.
Since starting the firm, Mr. Raskin has handled a variety of cases with an emphasis in representing individuals. He accepts cases involving Family Law (which comprises over 75% of his cases), Criminal Defense and certain Civil Litigation (including business disputes, real estate, and restraining orders).
Although he has previously represented large corporate clients, Mr. Raskin enjoys providing a personalized representation to individuals who unfortunately find themselves facing the legal system - often for the first time in their lives. Mr. Raskin recognizes the value of managing the costs of litigation and helps his clients balance these costs with the depth of representation that maximizes their chances of a favorable outcome.
Mr. Raskin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 1988, and later earned his Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of San Diego, School of Law. In law school, he earned several awards for academic excellence and outstanding advocacy, including the Order of the Coif, San Diego Law Review, Merit scholarships, "Child Advocate of the Year (2000)" by The Child Advocacy Institute, and academic awards in subjects such as: Intellectual Property, Civil Procedure, and Child Rights and Remedies.
Upon completing law school, Mr. Raskin became an associate one of San Diego's top law firms. His responsibilities included managing all aspects of litigation from inception to conclusion, and post verdict matters, covering nearly all areas of law. This experience laid the foundation for Mr. Raskin's excellence in advocacy, legal research, and confidential client counseling.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Raskin was a Special Operations Officer in the United States Navy. He graduated at the top of his class in both specialized dive training, and also in an intensive 52-week explosives and demolitions training program. He led teams specially trained to defeat all explosive devices on land and undersea. He personally conducted and directed demolition, closed-circuit diving, and hazardous ordnance render-safe procedures in the Middle East, East Asia, and the United States. He planned and conducted numerous missions in support of the United States Secret Service protection of the President, and other VIPs. He received combat decorations in Operation Desert Storm.
